The Nine Streets

The name of Amsterdam’s Negen Straatjes district translates as the ‘nine little streets’. The area is home to some of the Dutch capital’s smartest boutiques and is dotted with stylish cafés and hotels.
Away from the big department store chains, you will find original pop-up stores, second-hand shops, record shops, jewelry, art, shoes, bags, cosmetics and much more.
The 9 Streets are located in the Amsterdam canal belt, which was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010. This unique area encompasses the four main canals: Herengracht, Keizersgracht, Prinsengracht, and Singel.

The Kalberstraat located next to the Dam Square in Amsterdam, is undoubtedly considered the most popular shopping street in the city. You will find there all the brands, a large selection of clothing and footwear stores, accessories, fast food, coffee shops, and souvenirs for tourists.
Over the years, the long street from Dam Square to the Montplein (coin tower near the Floating Flower Market) has become the main and busiest shopping street in Amsterdam (on Saturdays, over 90,000 people pass here on average). This street has a 600-year history. If you rewind the clock to the 14th century, farmers were walking their cows through this area on their way to market.

Magana Plaza

A small, three-story shopping center is housed in an impressive building built in 1898 and located near Dam Square behind the King’s Palace. The building used to be a main post office and became a modern and prestigious shopping center with fashion stores, jewelry stores, cafés, and a new food area. In our opinion, the building is more impressive than the stores themselves. Go see the building and do your shopping elsewhere.
